St. Louis County Resources Available During Severe Heat
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (August 22, 2023) – During this Excessive Heat Warning, St Louis County
would like to remind residents of some resources available.
• The Department of Human Services has provided $1 million to Cool Down St. Louis to help pay
utility bills. For more information on Cool Down St. Louis, go to cooldownstlouis.org or call
314-241-0001.
• St. Louis County, in partnership with the Salvation Army, is operating a Cooling Shelter, at
10740 Page Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63132. The cooling shelter can accommodate up to 30 people
at a time and provides hot meals, laundry facilities and case management services. Please call
United Way 211 to access the Cooling Shelter or contact the Salvation Army-Family Haven at
314-423-7770 for more information. The shelter is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Another option for residents is the Loaves and Fishes Overflow Emergency Shelter, open now.

• St. Louis County Parks is offering free indoor walking at The Pavilion at Lemay and North
County Recreation Complex during regular operating hours through Friday, Aug. 25.
• The Department of Public Health encourages everyone to visit

Prevention can learn more about Hot Weather Tips and Signs of Heat-Related Illness. Drink more
fluids, regardless of how active you are. Do not wait until you are thirsty to drink. Stay away
from very sugary and alcoholic drinks. These drinks can cause a loss of body fluid, leading to
dehydration.
The National Weather Service anticipates dangerous heat conditions through at least Thursday.
“Please check on your neighbors and loved ones during this extreme heat,” said County Executive Dr.
Sam Page. “And please take advantage of our County resources. It only takes a few minutes during
these dangerous conditions to become seriously ill.”
