More Than 300 Area Volunteers Help Rise and Shine for Heat-Up St. Louis – Helping Low-Income, The Elderly and Disabled People With Their Delinquent Winter Heating Bills, On Friday, Feb. 15th During Breakfast At Area Hardee’s
The 8th Annual Hardee’s Rise and Shine for Heat-Up St. Louis fundraiser is scheduled during breakfast hours, between 6:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. at all participating Missouri and Illinois Hardee’s restaurants, serving the St. Louis metropolitan area on Friday, February 15th. More than 300 civic, business and media volunteers will serve as celebrity greeters and stationed in the drive-thrus, front counters and menu board areas of Hardee’s restaurants.
On Friday, during breakfast, Hardee’s is donating 100% of the sell proceeds from its Sausage and Egg Biscuit sandwich for the special price of $1.00. For those who are also participating in Lent, Hardee’s will also offer an Egg Biscuit sandwich for the special price of $1.00. “These are tough times, people are literally making choices between saving their homes and apartments, and heating or eating,” said Kevin X. McGowan, board president of the regional, not-for-profit utility assistance and education charity. “The latest chilling cold-snap continues to light up our resource hotlines, as we are in desperate needs of funds from the general public.”
Heat-Up officials believe that the annual Rise and Shine event is coming at a critical time, since it has very little funds to help qualified low-income, the elderly and disabled people, who are having difficulty paying their delinquent heating bills. Heat-Up also reminds the public to take full advantage of the Cold Weather Rule to keep utilities connected, as temperatures plunge, by attempting to make arrangements with their local utility vendor.
Heat-up St Louis also noted that winter time has the highest incidents of home and apartment deadly fires, because people often use unsafe methods of heating their residents. Officials remind the public that using a supplemental electric space heater, as a primary source of heating is also dangerous. The St. Louis area has already experienced some fire incidents relating to loss of personal property, injury and lost of life.
Since its inception, Heat-Up St. Louis has impacted the lives of more than 100,000 people in about 17 Missouri and Illinois counties, including the City of St. Louis and has received donations totally about $3 million. 100% of all public donations go towards servicing the needy, as all operational costs are underwritten by a diverse board of directors. Heat-Up St. Louis provides heat grants, referrals, counsel on utility assistance and public education.
Larger tax-deductible donation maybe given this weekend over the secured website: heatupstlouis.org or a check payable and sent to Heat-Up St. Louis, c/o UMB Bank, P.O. Box 868, St. Louis, MO 63188. For additional information call the automated Resource Hotline at 314-241-7668.
